As of late 2025, transgender individuals account for a tiny fraction of school shooting perpetrators, representing less than 1% in all major databases. Over 95% of school shootings are committed by cisgender males.

The Violence Project: This database, which tracks mass shootings back to 1966, has only recorded one case involving a transgender perpetrator: the 2023 Nashville school shooting.
The Gun Violence Archive (GVA): Using a broader definition of a mass shooting (four or more people shot), the GVA found that confirmed incidents with a transgender perpetrator accounted for less than 0.1% of all mass shootings over a recent 12-year period. In its database of 50 school shootings since 2012, only one involved a transgender suspect.

Contextualizing the data

In fact, the opposite is true: transgender people are significantly more likely to be victims of violence than perpetrators. Attempts to link transgender identity to mass shootings are often based on misinformation and ignore that the overwhelming majority of perpetrators are cisgender males.
