I just saw this as well. She's the original when it comes to wickedness way before we ever heard of Damien or Kevin.
She reminds me of Talking Tina with Telly Savallis. Remember that one?

I have it on DVD with commentary from Patty MCCormak. There is also a bonus feature with the making of the movie. It has some interesting info, like when Patty was doing the play on Broadway in the 50s, she was also on a TV show, Mama. TV was live back then. She sometimes had to rush between the TV studio and the theater in a taxi, changing her clothes on the way.
Another little tid bit… Henry Jones, who played LeRoy, the handyman at the apartment building can also be heard as the radio announcer when we hear about the drowning of the little boy.
I never cared for any of the remakes. While this one may seem over acted by younger audiences, people have to remind themselves that this was a play, and most of the actors in it were in the original cast. The movie was actually done somewhat like a play with a stage cast call at the end. I think it's charming.

I watched some of it. I tried to like it, but I lost interest about halfway through.
I think that the reason I like the first version is because the little girl just skips through life not really understanding nor caring that she has done any harm. She wants what she wants. As long as things are going her way, she farts rainbows!
That seems to Amp up the horror of the situation.
I also enjoy the way the first one was basically structured. The story started out as a novel, but then it became a Broadway play. That is how this first movie was basically filmed.
There is a 1980s TV remake as well. I didn't care much for that one either.
The little girl was too serious.
