He also reduplicates that same accent in "Carlito's Way" where he's supposed to be Puerto Rican.
Yes, I loved "Scarface" and "Carlito's Way" the first time I saw them. But I watched them again today and sorry, Pacino sounds like an idiot.
Caribbean people also say the accents are exaggerated and phony. I agree.
I've changed my overall opinion of Pacino. He's campy and he over emotes. Fuck the guy and the fools who bought his bullshit.

Pacino wasn't doing a Puerto Rican accent in Carlito's Way, he was doing a Bronx accent which is where he is from and his natural accent.
