I usually try really hard to like sequels for films like these. I wasn't fond of Tremors 4 but this film makes it look like the original by comparison. There is absolutely no justification for all the changes they made in this film in regards to the Grabboids.
You can try to defend it all you like by saying they look different because they're a different strain but the things in this film aren't even related to Grabboids. This is just a SyFy movie with Tremors as the title and half of the Burt character. -

I don't agree. Being a Tremors fan I thought it was alright, not terrible. I think it would have been a lot better if not for the South African setting. There weren't enough interesting characters, apart from Burt, Travis and the helicopter pilot.
This is just a SyFy movie with Tremors as the title and half of the Burt character.
You must be kidding there, the special effects weren't bad at all. Much better than your typical SyFy original. Jamie Kennedy wasn't as annoying as I thought he'd be and I liked the twist. Gave it a 7/10. -

I agree. Burt's kid is annoying. The movie is over the top. The ending with the lighting and blowing up the graboid is unlikely to happen.
What's with the snake things? Why have another form?
Part 4 was really good. -

I'd have to disagree. I was excited for the movie, but my hopes weren't particularly high. I was pleasantly surprised however. I thought the new graboids brought an interesting twist without being completely unreasonable. Besides some dumb plot elements, the change in style of humour, and that god awful cage scene, it was much better than I expected, and still felt like a Tremors film.

It didn't really feel like a tremors movie to me unfortunately. The creatures looked worse, the comedy wasn't as funny or prevalent, Burt wasn't as fun to watch, the sidekick was more annoying, the setting was wasted, the budget wasn't enough, etc. Them changing graboids in general I didn't mind because they change them in some way for EVERY sequel thus far, that's kind of the whole point. Although I agree the new link in the chain was weak and was just a generic CGI mouth monster.
This movie had many other problems beyond the creatures looks though, it was just a cheap and easy paycheck for everyone involved it seemed. The writing was made around the super low budget, and it showed very obviously. Even the 4th was better than this. I was hoping for the classic Burt I know and love, but instead got a disinterested watered down version of him running around an African village with nothing happening half the time

Nah it's not bad.
It's not worse than the previous sequels.. good fun, same old stuff, business as usual.
Nice to see a new location and slightly different breed which keeps it's all fresh.
I certainly want to see some underwater Grabboids the the 6th installment, if they made one.
