From his first movie until Extreme Prejudice, I think Hill had a great run (except Brewsters Millions). I just watched The Warriors again, and it holds up really well. Lots of great actors, characters, excellent direction, photography and music. I'm not sure what happened since then; if the scripts weren't as good, or whatever, but those early movies are timeless.

I think the 80s were his decade and they really were a good slate of films and I would include Brewster's Millions as it shows his versertility and to think people were saying that he was over the hill by the end of the 80s. He would had only been 48 at the time although he looked older.
      Its that man again!!

i love brewsters millions! lol. walter hill is one of the best directors around. yet criminally one of the least well known. everyone has seen at least one of his movies but they rarely know who he is. looking forward to his new movie with stallone.

I came to his IMDB page for this very reason.
So here I am late one night unable to sleep, hunting for some good films/TV series to scope out. I look on Fernando Merielles page and see forums about best directors ever. Not one person ever acknowledges Walter Hill.
Ever since I was a boy I have enjoyed every single thing Walter Hill has contributed towards. If he is not considered one of the bestwell, he certainly entertains me in every film/ TV series he's involved in.
I had no idea he was even involved in some of my favourite films. Southern Comfort and Hard Times are two films I loved watching as a boy. I am willing to bet he made the Alien film brilliant rather than just a good sci fi flick.
I recently tried watching Deadwood. The one or two episodes he was involved in were great. The rest of Deadwood bored me to tears.
Even that one episode of Tales from the Crypt starring William Sadler is possibly the best and only well written episode of that corny show.
I'd put him up there with the best of them. I'm talking Stanley Kubrick, Gaspar Noe, Quentin Tarantino and Akira Kurosawa to name a few.
Careful what you say to me. I will argue with you forever. I enjoy trying to prolong arguments 😄

But that would be to exclude
            Johnny Handsome
            ,
            Trespass
            ,
            Geronimo
            ,
            Wild Bill
            and
            Undisputed
            !
The guy's always been great. It's just too bad that Hollywood and what the audience wants have changed so much that a movie like
            Southern Comfort
looks like an art-film from a 2010s vantage point!

A Great Run From "Hard Times" to "Extreme Prejudice", the ones i like after that era are: "Johnny Handsome" "Trespass" "Last Man Standing" "Undisputed" & "Bullet to the Head".

I dont agree with up until extreme prejudice ..becoz johnny handsome , Red Heat, Trespass and Another 48 hours are all really cool films
I actually think trespass is one of his best.
Last man standing is the last decent Walter hill flick
Bullet to the head was Nothing no walter Hill signatures or anything..couldve been any other modern lame action movie with CGI gunshots.
I also didnt like Lone riders ..which was one of his early ones
