I wonder why it had to be that way?

Haven't seen this one in ages and ages, but generally speaking most dramas rise to a climax that usually is particularly dramatic, followed by what we call a denouement (resolution). Maybe this one didn't have that resolution. I'd have to watch the film again to give you a more definitive answer. I've been meaning to do that; maybe I'll get to it sometime soon. I do remember appreciating the Oscar winner a lot when I saw it my one and only time, so long ago. I'll get back to you after I watch it again.
P.S. And Donna, if you would put
      only
the title of the film in the title line, and your note about it ("The ending was so dramatic") down in the body with your other comment, I wouldn't have to click on "messages" and be taken back to everything on this site where I have to search for the CFB, which is what I have to do now, and which is time consuming. If you put the title of the film, and only that, in the title line then I believe I can simply click on "classic films" above it and get right back to the CFB board. It would help a lot. Thanks. (And if it's an administrator thing, then I don't know what to do. I just know that I'm only interested in the CFB board, which used to be easy to navigate, but now is hard.)

I posted this on the movie board. Look! Can you see where your reply is? It's on The Naked City movie board. Not on the Classic Movie board.
Nimda moved it. Talk to nimda about it.

I'm sorry, Donna. I had a feeling it was something like that. I'm very frustrated, and I'll see what I can do about it with nimba. Probably nothing, but I'll try. Thanks for letting me know.

Well I think he was doing it to make me happy cuz I told him that I enjoyed serious replies to my film topics and he enjoys classic films also.
Sorry it bothers you. But it is his forum and nobody can really take over a board like how it was on IMDb.com when certain people would take over a board and tell others how to post on it.

I think it's a way of showing WG trying to escape the city as such running to the edge of it in terms of height. Like King Kong climbing the Empire State. WG then has nowhere to run. He is also then sort of naked up there. Exposed.

I thought another way to interpret the "naked" part is when Frank Niles got exposed for being a pathological liar despite his looks and charm.
