In a sharp rebuke of President Donald Trump’s trade war, China’s Foreign Ministry posted to social media a striking video that calls on the international community to stand up to America’s “bully” leader.
“Bowing to a bully is like drinking poison to quench thirst – it only deepens the crisis,” China said in its video. “History has proven compromise won’t earn you mercy – kneeling only invites more bullying. China won’t kneel down.”
The video narrates a history lesson of what China considers American economic aggression, forcing companies like Toshiba and Alstom into breakup, financial crisis and bankruptcy and sending Japan’s economy into “decades of anemic growth.”
By contrast, China portrayed itself as a free-trade haven with which other countries can safety invest and partner.
“China will stand firm, no matter how hard the wind blows,” China said in the video. “Someone has to step forward, torch in hand to shatter the fog and illuminate the path ahead.”
The sweeping and dramatic rhetoric doubled as a stern message to the Trump administration after its historic trade war escalation as well as a call to action for other countries. China in the video called on every nation to “stand tall” to “break through the walls of hegemony.”
The video didn’t specifically mention the 145% tariffs the Trump administration has imposed on Chinese imports – or the 125% retaliatory tariffs China has, in turn, placed on American goods. But China published the video across social media in a moment of apparent willingness to bend from the Trump administration.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said his country would “never” yield to the United States as he declared victory in federal elections early Tuesday, following a campaign overshadowed by relentless provocations and steep trade tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.
The Liberal Party leader issued a stunning rebuke to Trump as he sent a message of unity to a divided nation, promising to “represent everyone who calls Canada home.”
“As I have been warning for months, America wants our land, our resources, our water, our country. But these are not idle threats. President Trump is trying to break us so that America can own us,” Carney said, as he hailed a remarkable reversal in fortune for his party. “That will never ever happen.”
Carney reiterated statements he made on the campaign trail about the vastly changed nature of Canada’s relationship with the United States.
“We are over the shock of the American betrayal but we should never forget the lessons. We have to look out for ourselves. And above all we have to take care of each other,” he said.

They aren’t bogus. You are stupid and don’t understand how a legal felony conviction happens. 34 counts. Guilty on all. Don’t talk about things you know nothing about. You already look stupid when you don’t, and more stupid when you do.
Judge Juan Merchan granted Trump what's called an unconditional discharge, a sentence that affirms he is a convicted felon, but faces no further penalties, fines or any time in jail.
. . . he said, because of the defendant, this was an extraordinary trial, and sentencing him would be the same. Merchan said that, if Donald Trump had been a regular citizen, a regular defendant, that he would have likely have faced much harsher punishment for those crimes.
. . . because Donald Trump is about to become president of the United States again, that comes with the enormous protections, the judge said. Those are granted by the Constitution, many other courts, and most recently interpreted again by the Supreme Court last year.
So Merchan argued this was the only course he could really take. But he did say those protections given to the president do not excuse the underlying crime. Let's hear a little bit of what he said today.
