Rescuers plan to free a stranded Humpback Whale using Excavators
A wide trench will be dug in front of the whale's head using floating equipment.
According to experts, the whale's chances of survival are slim.
The stranded humpback whale is about 12-15 meters long and weigh approximately 15 tons.
Another rescue operation for the whale stranded in LΓΌbeck Bay is scheduled to begin this Thursday.
Two floating excavators will be launched into the water to dig a 50-meter-long, 6-meter-wide and
1.20-meter-deep trench in front of the whale's head.
Wind and streams pose particular challenges for the rescue operation, excavator operator Tim LΓΆhndorf

told the dpa. Measurements also revealed that the humpback whale is larger than initially thought, estimated to be 12-15 meters long and weigh approximately 15 tons, according to the Institute for Terrestrial and Aquatic Wildlife Research (ITAW).

Battle against the Darkness
The coast guard is ready to escort the humpback whale into the North Sea, while excavators continuously shovel sand from the Baltic Sea. After the whale moved forward a few minutes ago and appears to have dropped a few centimeters deeper, rescue workers do everything they can to free the whale today. But time is running out. The operation is to be called off for today in the darkness and resumed tomorrow.

It's pitch black on Timmendorfer Strand beach near Nienburg. But the excavators are turning. In the floodlights, the stranded whale can be seen spouting water every few seconds. The young humpback whale is stranded since Monday, now fighting with all its might for freedom.

Plan Change - Excavators continue
Rescue workers changed their plan to suspend operations after nightfall. Because the whale is currently more active than ever, dredging will continue. Both the humpback whale and the rescue team appear determined to persevere.
