I've mostly had bosses who had my back even when I messed up (though that was rare). They knew it would be difficult to find a replacement with such a vast storehouse of knowledge and talent. And modesty.

We're pretty good about bosses having our backs these days, but things weren't always like this.
I was thinking about one particular employer I had who was constantly undermining my authority to make the very important decisions I needed to make to keep the company afloat, but he would repeatedly undermine us and not back us up when we needed to enforce policies.

I'm very proud of my modesty. It's a big part of why I'm where I am today.
I do find it difficult to find hats large enough, however. That's not a big negative, though.

I can intellectualize this concept, to be sure.
I've had a few outstanding Directors who completely had our backs and it allowed us to flourish.
