I can relate! I never take my phone with me when I go outside or take the dog out, so of course, something beautiful will happen and I'll see some lovely birds or other animals and I never have my phone on me, much less in my hand and at the ready.
I currently have this little bird who has been pecking at the dining room window. He hears me come down the stairs and stops and hides in the bushes. I couldn't snap a pic of him even if I tried!
That's wonderful that you get so many deer and can even get that close to them.

The deer that visit my property don't appear to be afraid of me - as long as I don't approach them too closely. Then they will shy away. But if I just casually ignore them, they ignore me as well.

That's a beautiful and symbiotic relationship. You can mutually pretend not to notice each other while observing from a distance.

A young one (I'm guessing a doe?) came around today, and I was able to go grab my camera and get fairly close to her in an attempt to get a picture. None of the pictures turned out very well at all except for the one below (and even that one is not that great)… the lighting wasn't in my favor, plus she would only let me get so close before shying away. Still, she hung around for a good while, and it was great to have a visitor! I've named her Matilda:

She's so tiny and delicate! She looks like a little princess. You got a gorgeous picture, and I'm surprised you were able to get this close. Awesome!
            Thank you for sharing!

She was so fun to interact with. I hope she visits again. I'll try to get better pics next time if she does.

I rarely have my phone on me, so I'm never able to capture such magical moments.
I'm so glad you were able to interact with her and to get this close to her in order to take a picture like that! If you take more pictures, I hope you'll share them here. They are so lovely, aren't they?

At least she has some sense that I'm not a threat to her. I'd even try leaving some food out, but I'm not really down with the idea of feeding wildlife, so I think I'll skip that. (It is tempting, though… and that applies to the wild eagles that perch in trees very near to me.)

My backyard is already a natural habitat that draws the wild animals. What little I'm putting out is unlikely to make a difference.
But it's like the squirrel (that I named Sasha) who had just given birth and showed up on my porch with tears across her belly, back, face and ear. I knew she had babies to care for, and I just couldn't let her go without helping her out some. I helped her for a short period until she healed up, and then stopped having to put food out for her and her babies. I wouldn't change a thing.
I've seen a wild eagle out in the wild and taken a few pictures, but the pics don't do him justice. My goodness they are huge!

She's delightful! There are no deer near me to observe so closely. Thanks for the pic.
