The desire to settle other bodies in the solar system is laudable; I don't think that the plans to do it in 20 years are at all credible and they make the plan a bit of a joke.
What's there in Mars that you could send back to Earth to make it help cover its costs? Nothing.

Any minerals you find on Mars, you have to bring out of its gravity well, and THEN bring it to Earth, and THEN down to the surface of our planet. The cost per gram for transportation would make any such feature economically unfeasible. Mining asteroids is way more feasible, and even that it's not sure if that will be feasible.
Any colonist on Mars would give up blue skies and open air. That's maybe worth it for the adventure, but if you have kids, they will be living that way, without a choice. There's an ethical issue there. (That's if babies can even develop semi-normally in 1/3rd gravity, which is not yet determined).

            Exactly, the Expanse.
I fear that most of the first colonists to be Mars, after the national research stations come and go, will be prisoners, unwanted minorities, and/ or prisoners of war.

I am saying that Mars is actually not a great option. Not much there, and you have a strong gravity well to navigate
The Moon might be better, the L points around the Earth and Moon, and yes the asteroid belt.

                    I'm sorry, I don't understand this point.

Ok, I didn't understand what you were saying about sharing or not sharing the resources. Ok, got it.
I think that private industry would have the major role in finding and then developing opportunities first. Have at it, I say.

Yup. Just don't move asteroids too close to us.

They are not. They fall in the same category as renaming the Gulf.
Trump is still your President. Charlie Kirk still Wins!
