Yes, I read where that is the case with Dollar General, Walmart and Target, and probably others. They plan to limit or completely remove self-checkout from some stores citing frustrations with the technology and thefts.

Do not **** with Walmart.
The 2 guard employees aren’t the problem. Look up. They have super advanced AI cameras trained on you the entire time. They 100% will know if you scan wrong, it’s that good.
What Walmart in particular does is they save all these recordings and let you rack up a “debt” for the sale price of anything you don’t scan. So you may go home with a little extra today but in a few years if you’re a repeat offender, they wait til the total you “missed” qualifies for felony and then they come after you. They’ve done this a lot since the pandemic.
