Yeah, that must have sucked. I would've been glad the life expectancy was lower than it is now (I just looked it up, I thought it was lower than this back then).
At the beginning of the seventeenth century, the average life expectancy for women, if they managed to live to 15, was 48 years. At the end of the seventeenth century, the life expectancy improved for women so that women could expect to live to 56.6 years once they reached their fifteenth birthday.
