I worked for 33.5 more years, and then retired. I did some globe trotting before retiring, and some after.

I prefer to see people as individuals, not as nationals of a particular country. That said, I don’t want to go to a country where civilians are being gunned down and also I have a particular thing where I don’t want to visit a country that has the death penalty. I watched Bangkok Hilton when I was probably late teens and it gave me a fear of accidentally drug smuggling or something and being executed for something I didn’t do so it’s my preference not to go to a country that has capital punishment. I know that’s paranoia but I’m the person who is terrified of airport security in case they discover all that heroin that I obviously don’t have

Lol so you're totally safe from the death penalty in 23 states, including some of the big touristy states like New York, Illinois (Chicago) and Hawaii. It's still on the books in California, but hasn't happened in over 20 years.
But I don't blame you at all for not wanting to visit the US
