The president is a member of the U.N
Now, more than 75 years later, the United Nations is still working to maintain international peace and security, give humanitarian assistance to those in need, protect human rights, and uphold international law. At the same time, the United Nations is doing new work not envisioned for it in 1945 by its founders.
The US military is not a militia that goes to other countries threatened them not to invade the US.

It begins with world leaders having meetings with each other. The military doesn't get involved unless the president does. And the US military hasn't needed to defend democracy in hundreds of years.
