Not exactly. It has a unique status. I like the way Canada has done it. Ottawa, Ontario is in the National Capital Region and so is Gatineau, Québec. If we had done it that way we would have Washington, Maryland and likely Arlington, Virginia, which broke away early, in ours. How many foreigners realize that the Pentagon is not in Washington, DC?
The crazy talk of making DC a state would end. How many other cities are just as deserving?

It's unique status keeps it out of the state crime statistics which would be upended were it to be included Drake
DC is a very dodgy place with its own set of laws. If I ever get reincarnated in a thousand years or so I look forward to seeing what really goes on there in a historical fiction
