I'm still trying to figure out why he let my unborn great nephew suffocate in my niece's womb at eight months, eight days before Christmas. Maybe somebody can explain that one to me.

Yes, the OB/GYN said the color was all wrong, he speculated that a blood clot formed and as a result not enough oxygen was getting through.

That's not what scripture says:
Isiah 45/7 " I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and
create evil
: I the LORD do all these things."
Theologians typically gloss 'evil' as 'misfortune' and tell us that this passage only refers to Natural Evil (bad states of affairs which do not result from the intentions or negligence of moral agents.) That would include cancers.
I think you'll find things are a little more complicated than that. -

The saying "everything happens for a reason" is a popular phrase that conveys the belief that events and experiences in life are not random or haphazard but instead have a purpose or underlying cause. It suggests that there is a higher, predetermined plan or meaning behind the occurrences we encounter. It is no doubt a comfort and provides a pattern for those who look at another wise cold, largely empty, and frequently cruel universe.
In science of course things very usually do show clear cause and effect except for a small class of things (like the universe) which may just be a 'brute fact' without further need for explanation.
Of course if God exists and absolutely everything does have a reason, then there must be something outside of the deity which gives it legitimacy and purpose. If not, the entity exists without reason. And what is the reason for the reason?
The existence of souls is entirely unevidenced.

Einstein said, "Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another". This first law of thermodynamics which also known as Law of Conservation of Energy works in all sphere of life. So yes.
As for consciousness however, science usually considers this a manifestation of the physical brain, arguably an evolutionary stratagem of sophisticated organisms to better survive through co ordination. But when we die so does our consciousness since it is only a property of the brain. So no. What form does it change into at this point otherwise, from whence does it spring at that point and what is the evidence?
