on xmas afternoon 2 days ago i bought a six pack and a cheeseburger at 7-11. nobody in the store but me and the young guy working the counter. twice he said "boss" during the visit. i paid and walked out and then went back in.
i told him NOT to call me "boss" OR anybody else "boss", other than his actual in-the-store "boss". He looked at me funny. i then further explained that he was boss of himself and his life AND onlyhimself and not to lessen that relationship by casually referring to strangers as "boss." this guy was barely 19 if that so i just wonder what kind of sociodynamic influence enabled him to speak the way he did?
in the military you acknowledge rank because the sysyem functions as a hierarchy with chain(s) of command and responsibilities; but i never accepted it carte blance: outwardly, i played the game by saluting and the requisite"yes sir!", but unless simultaneously i felt the person had earned objectively their position/status, i did everything to undermine their authority secretly. -

No. I just think it feels too authoritative. I hate authority… for the most part. I respect the opinions of experts, for example, but **** like the sir thing just reminds me of the hick parents I knew growing up who would get so mad at their kids if they said yes or what instead of yes sir and sir.
