I can separate the male from the female.
But that doesn't explain why they are more vocal around me than they are right now in the bedroom by themselves.

It seems like they're trying to impress you with their individual greatness, just like they do with each other. "Look at me! Look at me! I'm the best!" I think it's a compliment.
