It's simple logic really. If an intelligent race of aliens created a simulated universe just like its own, then the intelligent aliens in the simulated universe could create another simulated universe like their own, and the aliens in that new simulated universe could do the same, and so on. This cycle could continue into infinity, meaning if there are an infinite number of simulated universes and only one real universe, we are much more likely to be in the simulation. There is almost a zero percent chance we would be in the real one. This idea all hinges on whether it would ever be possible to create a simulated universe in the first place.
