danke. putin is just like every tyrant before him and that's how his actions should be judged. the West lost sight of this and instead chose to "accommodate" him, to the world's peril.
** side note: my great-great grandmother was born and lived in Konigsberg. Why the allies allowed the USSR to retain this part of Germany was a huge mistake! so even then "we" were accommodating and appeasing the Soviet Bear.
Hallo to another descendant of a
Königsberger Klops
!
Since 2014 (annexation of Crimea by Russia) I'm typing my fingers bloody and even had heated discussions inside the family because of Nordstream II.
Often enough I was even suspected to hate all Russians.
No, I hate their political leadership!
Especially Putin whom you called correctly a
tyrant
…I call him also a murderer.
We never should've made ourselves so dependant on Russia!
Since Russia's attack on Ukraine and
little
opinion-changes here many
little
bribery scandals were revealed.
Mostly SPD members (socialist party) and their
social
foundations got money from Russia.
Our current chancellor is SPD. ☻ ☻ ☻
He
'only'
suffers from memory lapses in context with a huge tax fraud.
However, Königsberg (Kaliningrad) stayed a Russian
island
in Poland to secure, that Prussia (as the
'heart'
of Germany) will never harm other countries again.
Berlin was anyhow occupied and under control.
Yes, we deserved that after all the evil we did.
Now times have changed…hopefully to the better.
Regarding Russia's and China's political leadership that's doubtful. -

We're hearing conflicting reports all around. I think we've learned the media's take isn't objective and is hardly credible even when weighing in on domestic events. So why take what they say about Russia with any more leeway?

Agreed. I find it more likely this was a mutual territory dispute that began long ago and opportunists got involved to make money off it. Russia was the aggressor but there are disputes globally all the time. This wasn't a threat to the west in any way.

Go ahead, new socky.

I was a long time poster of the original imdb until they phased it out 6 years ago. I even have older posts here (and the Obama board) on my similar former ID. And CryptoCraft has known me on the imdb2 boards for years now. But if you want to jump to presumption out the gate, that's on you.

The obvious threat is Nato if they expanded into that part of the Ukraine, no way would the displaced Russians be reunited.
You really believe the **** you're telling.

The average life expectancy of Russians already fell to 71 years before the war, that of men to just 66 years. "That's lower than in North Korea, Syria and Bangladesh," historian
Max Boot told the Washington Post
. The most recent birth rate was only 1.5 children per woman.
Biased article quotes Max Boot as an authoritative source. Boot is one of the worst warmongers in US history and was a major cheerleader for Bush's disastrous and illegal Iraq War - and he's a hardcore Zionist to boot (no pun intended).
Boot considers himself to be a "natural contrarian".[32] He identifies as a conservative, once joking that "I grew up in the 1980s, when conservatism was cool".[33] He is in favor of limited government at home and American leadership abroad,[34]
believing America should be "the world’s policeman"
.[35]
Boot was one of the earliest proponents of the US invasion and occupation of Iraq.[36] In October 2001, in an article titled "The Case for American Empire",
he proposed that the USA must greatly increase its military engagement against other countries and compared his proposal to invade Afghanistan and Iraq with the American role in defeating Nazi Germany
.
Boot is a strong supporter of Israel and opposed the dismantling of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank… In 2017
Boot supported President Trump's controversial decision to relocate the American embassy to Jerusalem saying "he got this one right. My only complaint is that this move is more symbolic than substantive"
.[40]

I could've said, "Stopped reading there…" but I continued to read and it got even worse.
The end of the article quotes Timothy Snyder, another warmonger and Russophobic historian, who idiotically calls Putin a "white nationalist". That's odd considering Putin's strong support among nonwhites in Africa, Asia and Latin America and his commitment to a
multipolar world
which is quite the opposite of a racist neocolonialist European dominated world.
According to Snyder,
the only way to end the war is for Putin's Russia to "win by losing", as only if Ukraine wins will it be possible for the dictator to leave the scene, and for the country to start a democratic process that will benefit Russia itself.
Snyder is on the list of 200 Americans barred from entering Russian territory, under sanctions announced by the Russian government in November 2022.

Apparently, this nut wants to further escalate the war and ultimately bring regime change to Russia.
When he's not comparing Putin to Hitler, he's comparing Trump to the infamous German dictator:
Asked in early 2017 how the agenda of the Trump administration compared with Adolf Hitler's rise to power, Snyder said that history "does not repeat. But it does offer us examples and patterns, and thereby enlarges our imaginations and creates more possibilities for anticipation and resistance".[73]
In a May 2017 interview with Salon, he warned that the Trump administration would attempt to subvert democracy by declaring a state of emergency and take full control of the government, similar to Hitler's Reichstag fire: "it's pretty much inevitable that they will try."[74]
Yup, total nutter. -

Ok, with a little
colour-support
it's easier to see, what
YOU
said.
You declare the article in my OP as "biased" and reason this your
opinion
with two people who were quoted in the article (Max Boot, Timothy Snyder).
Though I don't agree with all their opinions either, it's simple demagogic exaggeration to call them
"worst warmongers"
,
"cheerleaders"
,
"warmonger"
,
"Russophobic"
,
"nut"
,
"comparing Putin to Hitler"
(that's not in your Wiki-quotes, but ok
),
"total nutter"
.
Thanks for sharing your opinions about the both
devils
(Max Boot, Timothy Snyder) and
holy
Putin.
It's easy to submit personal hate, dislikes and fondness.
The article's facts you rather don't discuss (Russian population shrinks, high mortality, high poverty).
Understandable, cause that could disturb your onesided view on Russia's politics.
And with that you can easily ignore Putin's
real
intentions.
