The US haven't really progressed much in the last 10-15 years. They have a few decent players and then a lot of just fast, fit players.
The US doesn't produce technical geniuses like Messi, Maradona, Ronaldo, Lewandowski etc.
It's mainly a nation of grunts. They're good at sports where you run in a straight line and chuck something.
