I just saw this after I had seen it 10 years previously.
Such a mess. The new OST basically ruins EVERY scene it is used in, as it re-contextualizes everything (the editing is dreadful as well, but the score)
It seems to me, however, one piece of Lanois work was kept, when Cruz's character first shows up.
I hope Thornton gets Lanois OK and somehow releases it It's not a bad MOVIE, it's just butchered!!
VOTE JACOB'S LADDER INTO THE TOP 250's!!!

The music is OK for me but I never heard the original music. I so hope they can get along and release sometimes the entire picture with the original music. That would be awesome!
Its just so sad that the variety of the world should be used as a contentious issue. -

I'm 34 minutes in and I'm pretty bored. I like the actors, the director, etc., but man this thing is boring me. Whether an additional two hours would liven it up, I don't know. I didn't go in thinking this as a western (still don't) but still

Man that's such a shame. An interesting story, and I'm surprised to find out that Thornton's cut was actually under 3 hours considering the narrative that's always been out there was that the Weinstein's cut down this huge 4 hour cut and then salvaged it to an under 2 hour release. Such a pity. I only saw the movie last year after being a fan of the book for some time. It looks great, has a solid cast and gets certain moments right, but there's just so much missing. I'd love to see the real director's version at sone point. I hope that happens.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but I do remember it ending well before the book's actual ending. Also, the speech that Penelope's Cruz's aunt gives is mostly missing, and that's a pivotal moment in the novel. But mostly, a lot of things are glossed over or rushed in a number of scenes. I'd definitely watch it again at some point, but there is definitely a good amount omitted. Naturally, not everything can be included, but considering that we know the movie was cut down, there was obviously a good amount of material that was intended to be there, but that was axed by Harvey Weinstein.

Recently I watched the 'short' version (almost 2 h 40 mins) and it's really a good modern Western.
Not a cheesy love story!
I'll try to find the director's cut; for now only the trailer.
