    What's with the clicking sound, starting with the Commie and answered by Mary? I couldn't duplicate it and wonder what its cultural provenance is.

        Perhaps, it is something that some German immigrants at that time would do. One should remember that in 1932, there were a still a lot of 1st and 2nd generation Germans around.
        Robert Barat does the same thing when he plays Fritz in the movie
        Lilly Turner
        (1933). If you enjoyed Barat in this movie, you should probably watch
