I still don't understand why there shutting down the message boards. Do you have any information on why this is happening? Also, can we still send private messages without the message boards?

The PM option is going to be phased out after the message boards are shut down. I think all the trolling in the last five years really had a lot to do with this. They trolls on countless message boards with all their shilling, name calling, body shaming, and so on really got out of control. Sad they ruined it for the rest of us.
