I hate to say it, but her acting in this film is shockingly bad. She didn't deliver one line that was even adequate.

I have seen The 39 Steps and the remake is coming up next. I like Cybill Shepherd in The Client List, but then this was a long time agoShe's good now.

I thought Shepherd was just awful in this movie. It was hard to take any of it seriously. Gould wasn't much better but he looked like Olivier compared to her. She over acted every scene and really made a fool of herself.

I'm watching this right now. It is horrendous. I loved the original, and the newer remake on the BBCbut this was just awful. Cybill Shepherd is absolutely miserable in this role. She should NEVER act in a period piece..she's strictly late 20th/21st century material, and is plainly unbelievable trying to blend in with the other actors portraying people of earlier decades. It's like watching a version of Robin Hood where the typical dialogue is something like.."Hey, youse guysc'mon, let's get outta here!" Eliot Gould is no better. In facthe might be worse.

offramp, you must like the object of mystery. That was one body part they didn't really focus on.

You are mixing up two old Hitchcock movies, "The Lady Vanishes" and "The 39 Steps".
This is of course a remake of "The lady Vanishes", only a lot funnier.
I can't understand why so few people enjoyed CS's role. I thought she was a riot!

No, he/she didn't mix the movies up. Just said that Gould and Shepherd would have been good in a 39 Steps remake. We'll have to agree to disagree on Cybill's performance in this one.

After watching this, I found myself agreeing that Shepherd seemed absolutely wrong for this film. But I also found myself wondering what it might have been like if instead of the totally dull and one-note Gould as her leading man, she had done this in the mid-80s in a modern setting as a Moonlighting episode with Bruce Willis. THEN it might have worked. Not this way though.
