I thought Bud did mention to Gekko in MNS when he told Gekko after his "little time away" he turned Blue Star into one of the largest private Jet brokerages in the world. I guess it depends on how you interpret "away"?

So we don't find out what happens to Gordon Gekko (we just assume he goes to jail) and we don't find out whether Bud goes to jail or not? Also, I hope the people in Bud's office discovered that he wasn't the criminal they might have thought he was, given how he saved the airline. He cheated, yes, but he didn't sell his soul.
I like the implied ending. We know that Gordon went down (and Bud probably [read: probably] did, too), but we don't need it all spelled out for us. Seeing Bud climb the steps to the Supreme Court building as the camera draws back on the larger city was a great final shot.
Sheen's cameo in
Money Never Sleeps
cheapened that ending, which is part of what I really didn't like about the sequel.

We don't know if Bud was offered a plea deal or if his case went to trial. Obviously someone ratted him out because they needed his help to get Gekko so they likely would have needed a snitch to strengthen their case against Bud. Remember Bud told Gekko he had a few friends who wouldn't mind making a little extra money, so likely one of them testified against him, could have been another broker at his firm. But we never found out who. How much evidence there was against Bud is something we will never know. The scene where the Stock Watch guy is alerted of his suspicious activities is really the only info we got.

Bud Foxe got arrested because Gordon called the SEC and reported his insider trading with Sir Larry to them after Larry bought the Bluestar airline during that whole mess near the end of the movie, Gordon ratted Bud out and they were already looking at Bud already because his lawyer friend had been contacted by them and wanted to suspend all business deals with Bud after that, so Gordon made it worse for Bud by telling them how Bud screwed him over and sold inside information to Sir Larry about the bluestar deal, how else do you explain Bud getting arrested the very next day?
So Gordon got his revenge and Bud got sent to prison, but Gordon did time away too, i was suprized that Bud did not have Gordon arrested for Assault and Battery after Gekko kicked his ass at the Central Park club on the green, that was way out of line too. -

My understanding is that Bud's lawyer friend alerted the authorities and they swooped down on Bud. Gordon would have learnt of Bud's arrest in the papers or from the traders desks those who witnessed his very public detention by the cops.
