            I used to think he was John Goodman. He and George shared a segment on Conan's first Late Night Show.

                    CHEERS
                    and especially
                    "Norm!"
                    were also very beloved here.
                    Actor George Wendt has died
                    US actor George Wendt, who rose to fame through his role in the cult series
                    CHEERS
                    has died.
                    According to his family, he died
                    "peacefully at home in his sleep"
                    at the age of 76.
                    George Robert Wendt Jr.
                    (October 17, 1948 – May 20, 2025)
                    In the popular sitcom about a fictional Boston bar, which ran from 1982 to 1993, he played regular customer
                    Norm Peterson
                    , who always sat at the bar with a beer. Wendt was nominated for six Emmy Awards for his role. He also appeared as
                    Norm
                    in several other series, including
                    "The Simpsons"
                    and "Frazier". In addition to dozens of TV and movie productions, Wendt also performed on Broadway.
                    George Wendt grew up in Chicago with six sisters and two brothers.
                    He is the uncle of comedian and actor Jason Sudeikis (

                    In 1974, Wendt met actress Bernadette Birkett at the
