For scares, I thought 1 and 3 were the best. For sheer emotional resonance, 2 wins hands-down. 4 was easily my least favorite (more action-oriented and not really for fans of the series, IMO), though it probably had the best story; some of the twists were really clever. All things considered, overall I'd say 2 was the best, followed by 1, then 3, with 4 bringing up the rear. But, to its credit, 4 had those creepy-ass two-headed monsters with the baby faces, and they're damn near worth the price of admission; the first time I saw one it lurched toward me so quickly that I screamed and threw my controller up in the air. My girl didn't let me forget that for months.

Well I've played SH3 now and I can safely say it is the scariest of the entire series. SH2 is like Resident Evil next to SH3. However, in order..
SH2
SH1
SH3
This one is my least favourite so far. That doesn't mean it wasn't a great game though. Also, it scared me a little too much. I'm all for being scared but this game took being scared to a whole new level. -

Of the 1-4 in the series, it goes, for me..
SH2
SH1
SH3
SH4
Silent Hill 2 will always be the best Silent Hill, the music, the story, the intro to pyramid headit was just a fantastic game.
Silent Hill is still great, even with the out-dated graphics. Going place to place, the puzzles, the creatures, the games seemed pretty long too and I also loved the 5 endings, Ilove when a game has multiple endings which is why I like SH.
SH3 was great, my only issues was lack of endings, basically only 2 with the bonus UFO ending. It is still a fantastic game.
SH4 was def the weakest of the 4. Which, isnt even bad as SH4 was still a good game, but I hated how Harry rarely spoke, the endings kind of felt way too simular. It basically felt like 3 endings, the main good one and the one where you (slight spoilers) save Eileen but dont candle the apartment are just near the same minus one different line from Eileen and the apartment being haunted. Eileens death on the radio seemed cheap and the sad thing was the main bad ending, 21 sacraments almost seemed like the most interesting ending. It was the worst ending, even though a lot of people always felt (before SH3 was released) thatHarry dying in the car was the legit ending, In Water of the legit ending of 2, and 3 either or I suppose. Still, I liked SH4 but the other 3 were more of gold to me. -

Its not a rumor. There are several that were recently released and more coming very soon. SH2 remake was…ok, I'd say good but its very different from the PS2 original. Short message was terrible. Ascension I couldn't be bothered to experience but heard it was awful. I'm pretty excited for SH f though, and remaining optimistic about townfall.
