The shimmer is an alien invasion.
It came from outer space.
It has been on earth for at least 3 years
The bears abilities and flower people were the result of the invasion
TPTB wanted a team of scientists for this mission. It seems they also wanted people that had nothing tying them to the need to return…broken people! Dr.V had terminal cancer…she is a doctor and since insanity was a concern…psychology might be a benefit.
It was a means of showing that kane was a broken man…therefore he was qualified to take on the mission. I assume Dr.V determined this…and the reason for her being selected for the mission…she had intimate knowledge of the teams mental state.
