I may be in the minority, but I think this was the best movie Don Knotts ever made and I'm truly sad that it was this film's failure at the box office that pretty much killed the writer/director of this movie, the great Nat Hiken, his first feature film.
The performances and that great cast of character actors in this movie to those who grew up watching The Andy Griffith Show, The Phil Silvers Show and Car 54 Where Are You to see many of the supporting actors from these shows in featured roles in this movie is a great treat. The screenplay is hilarious although even by 1969, only slightly dated.
This would have been an eyepopping experience, seeing this in a theatre, and sadly around August 1969, movies like "Midnight Cowboy" and "Easy Rider" were filling theatres Don Knotts was sadly passe by then not even "How to Frame a Figg" could bring him back to a decent box office status but he is magnificent in this movie, nobody could have done better.

It might be the best movie Don Knotts ever made. At least it's the best Don Knotts movie that I've ever seen!

I adore this film. I love the whole hilariously ridiculous concept of Don Knotts as this ultra-hip and super sexy icon of 1960's sexual liberation as well as a bastion of free speech.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything.
