drunk straight by the French bartender when Doyle was drinking whiskeyanyone know it was? The only green drinks I know are Creme de Menthe and Chartreuse and these are mixers.

For my money, I hope it isn't creme de menthe, and it just isn't the right colour anyways. Absinthe was not a terribly popular drink in the 70s as Pernod, the apertif created to replace Absinthe following its ban, was (and remains) well-established in French gastronomy, particularly in the south. Marseilles is not far from the region where Chartreuse is produced (Voiron, Isre, about 200 miles inland), and it appears you can see a blotchy symbol on the label that could be the Carthusian badge that all legal Chartreuse carries. Most importantly, Chartreuse is the only liquor of these that you can drink THAT MUCH, straight from the bottle, and not fall over or throw up. For my money, it's Green Chartreuse. Sant, Popeye.
