WRONG! Interracial marriage was NEVER illegal in the US (certain racist states tried making it illegal for a little while in the middle of the last century). It was only frowned upon in others. There was an Interracial couple in Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird.
In fact Interracial marriage was common in New Orleans as far back as it's Colonial days.
How do you think people like Oboma, Tiger Woods, and Mariah Carey came into existence? They are the children of Interracial couples.

I think two or three backwards Southern states tried making it illegal in the early twentieth century but the more civilized states like New York and California and even Louisiana never had it illegal.

Not all Southern states. Even in it's Colonial stages Louisiana was the Southern Melting plot. The very race Creole was mixture of African and French.
It's ironic when you think about it, how utterly backward it was. Especially considering Othello was about an interracial couple and that was written in the late sixteen hundreds. Also it was a common way to get out of slavery, for an African slave to marry their master.
People also forget Cleopatra and her relationships with Mark Anthony and Caesar. She was from Egypt. The Northern tip of Africa. Seems that some of the more backward parts of the American South tried to make something an issue about fifty years ago that until the end of slavery hadn't actually been an issue.

Cleopatra was an inbred greek, who had was forced to paint herself and dance with nakes to appear more egyptian in the eyes of her subjects.

Interracial marriage varied state by state. Some states banned it, others allowed it. It wasn't until Loving v. Virginia that prohibition of interracial marriage was declared unconstitutional for EVERY state.

I thought it was an interesting choice, too, given how rare it was then. They didn't make it a plot point at all so maybe they just liked this actress the most when she auditioned. I must say, she played a naggy shrew VERY effectively here. Beautiful woman, but man did I want to see someone sew her mouth shut!!

It was just more political correctness bull $hi+. Really hindered the realistic approach of the movie.

Realistic approach? It's a bunch of children who worship a corn god and kill every one of their own once they reach the age of 19. How is their any realistic approach in that?

Thank you for that thinly veiled racism failure873. Barack Obama is biracial and he was born in 1961. Halle Berry was born in 1966 and she's biracial. If you come to Louisiana you'll meet black people with green eyes and dirty blond hair. The point is there were interracial couples back then even though it was not common. It's not common to have a town full of corn god worshiping human sacrificing children.

This is how it works. Apparently they liked her performance and this is how most people get picked for parts in movies, sitcoms and the like. I loved her on Battlestar Galactica; unfortunately I missed seeing her in the remake of COTC.
I'm trying to find it on line to watch it. So far nothing.
