Jimmy Carter had only one term as president but in those four years he had at least three very important achievements. The first was the Camp David Accords, which brought peace between Israel and Egypt. The second was the decontrol of oil, which severely curtailed the power of OPEC. Third, he appointed Paul Volker to the Federal Reserve and Volker's policies ended the crippling stagflation that was plaguing the economy and set the stage for economic recovery. Carter was also one of the most honest and trustworthy men to ever hold office and he was probably the most intelligent. His often maligned 'malaise speech" was one of the most prescient speeches of all time.
The New York Times features a column by Nicholas Kristof that brings a long overdue and very positive review of Carter and his presidency. So, today, I think we should all salute Jimmy Carter, the most underrated president in US history, a great man and a very good president.

I salute him. If the economy of the world, and hence the USA, had only been better, voters would have re-elected him no matter how many times Reagan spoke about tax cuts.

Carter made the decisions to make the economy better (Appointment of Volker to the Fed, Oil price decontrol). Unfortunately it takes time for the situation to improve. And improve it did, when Reagan became president. Of course, Reagan squandered the economy that Carter gave him, running up deficits as well as accelerating the decline of the middle class.
It is heartening, however, that FINALLY people are beginning to understand how good a president Carter was. I look to the 2016 Democratic Convention, a convention in which Jimmy Carter is finally recognized for the great man he is.

His camp David accord negotiations were a ****kng disaster, and he just increased aid to Israel to allow them to attack Lebanon multiple times which killed tens of thousands of people and displaced hundreds of thousands.
This guy is a ****ing piece of **** war criminal like every other us president
