My main issue with CGI is that it is overused, in the sense that there are no limits, and by extension it just feels like I'm watching a Playstation movie.

Yeah, and there are movies where like pretty much the whole thing is made in a green or blue room like the SW Prequels.
Is it any wonder why the very first orig. SW 3 is far superior to the later versions with extras thrown in and all the SW movies that followed?
CE3K, and many other movies before CGI insaturation, had the perfect balance of acting and SFX.
Like Superman:The Movie and it is another example where practical looks better than the current CGI crop of movies of Supes.

Agreed 100%. Movies now days are, to use your words, "saturated" with CG, and so nothing sticks out as impressive.
