Good, kind, humane treatment? That's great. Does that mean you're pro-life? If every person should be treated humanely (including unborn children) you must be against abortion too. If you are that's great because abortion is murder and shall never be tolerated for any reason.

"I guess that would depend on whether you believe an unborn child is a person."
why is it not a person?
it will at one point have a heart, lungs, brain and a soul.
but Democrats don't feel it is a life until it's pushed out right?
The word you are looking for is hypocrite
Bush is awesome, if you disagree PM me and tell my why you think he sucks -

As stated earlier, Carroll O'Connor was a devout liberal. The fact that he was s5b4o convincing as a staunch conservative is a testament to the man's acting ability.
Lost in this discussion is that Mike, although not bigoted and more book smart than Archie, was just as wrong and narrow minded with some of his views. The moral, in my opinion, is that extremist views on either end of the spectrum are simplistic and damaging. -

My father knew Mr. O'Conner's father Frank, an attorney in NYC. Carroll was a prolific liberal and very active in politics. Traveled through the world at a young age, and lived for years in Ireland writing and acting on stage. Frank was very proud of his son.

Well, it just goes to show what a great actor he is.
Most actors tend to simply play themselves on camera (Adam Sandler, Jack Black, et al). To play the complete opposite of yourselves, or a character that's conflicting to your own beliefs takes guts and talent. I most definitely would not play a bigot on tv, and if I did, I would never bare to watch myself.
BTW, both liberals and conservatives are hypocrites, btw.
Conservatives are for the death penalty and against abortion,
liberals are against the death penalty but for abortion.
I could go further in depth but I don't want to start a flame war, nor would it be appropriate, so I'll just end it there

Liberals aren't 'for abortion'. They just believe its the woman's choice, and no-one else's, if she wants to have one or not. If she wants to keep the baby its her choice, if she wants an abortion it's her choice too, if she wants to adopt, its also her choice
Whereas Pro-life people seem to think the woman must have the baby at any cost.
Yes, tell that to the woman who ended up pregnant after being raped, having her throat cut and left for dead. This was about 15 years ago, she survived, found out she was pregnant, had an abortion and the pro-lifers were condemning her and calling her a baby murderer -

AMEN to that although I am Conservative I respect Carroll O'Connor I can't even imagine what kind of hell he went through when his Son killed himself plus having to put up with that Drug Pusher pos who was giving him the drugs. Cause Hugh got addicted to pot when he was in his teens after dealing with cancer. I guess Hugh Stayed clean for the most part while filming In The Heat Of The Night. Plus Carroll O'Connor was friends with Howard Rollins ended up dying after the fact of years of drug abuse. I don't know if Carroll O'Connor would support Democrats today cause a lot of them support drug legalization. Although on Pot thi1354s is just me I don't care if someone smokes a joint.

Very liberalI always wondered what Archie Bunker would have thought of Chief Gillespie. His In the Heat of the Night character married a black woman. Pretty cool. What a great actor Mr. O'Connor was. And even though, I have become a conservative I still love this man. In the Heat of the Night was almost as good as All in the Family.
