That depends upon how well documented the history is.
As long as she doesn't have any felony convictions, she should be able to buy one. And even if she is a convicted felon, she could probably score a long gun via a private sale. But I stress that I am not advising she do that, assuming she does have a felony record. -

This is a funny debate actually even though it has absolutely no place in this thread topic.
I am simply pointing out that if there is no documented history of mental illness or felonies, you should have no problem legally purchasing a handgun or long gun.
Which is why there are so many mass shootings in the US. Ok. Got it. -
