I always thought that was bullshit. Men are perceived to be better friends because the friendships tend to be shallow. The closer you are the someone, the more your real thoughts and feelings come out.

Objectifying women. Slut shaming while at the same time, sexualizing the same women. Macho posturing, the stigma around emotions, and stuff.
Women can be toxic too, but not at the same level, and it's not as reinforced by social/cultural norms.
