Even though 5'9" might be average for a man, the average is brought down by a bunch of Asian midgets and little Mexicans. I don't take a white man seriously unless he's at least 5'10".
The height of a woman is always good unless she's a dwarf or a giant. Height is not really a requirement for success as a woman unless she wants to be a model.

That’s a very silly attitude to take, Gameboy. The manlets and the
short kings
will take great offense to this statement, much to your detriment.
Women benefit from height in that in makes them more powerful looking, more imposing. I happen to think tall women have a certain elegant femininity to them. They have a certain confidence about them that is as sexy as it is platonically attractive. This can translate over to success in other pursuits like business. So it can be beneficial.
Height for women seems to be a double edged sword. Women are pressured to be small as small is considered feminine in our society. Consequently men generally avoid being with taller women and taller women are more self conscious about their height. It’s the inverse for men.

I take a grain of truth and exaggerate it for the purposes of smart assery. But it is true that your average of 5'9" is not average for white men. That's short.
But I still think your gender neutralist position falls apart. Seriously, the majority of women want a man taller than them. And the majority of men want a woman shorter than them. This is just how the world works.
I'm just saying that a woman who is 4'10" can be quite successful, even wield authority as a manager. But a man who's 4'10"?
Sorry, no one takes him seriously if he tries to exert any authority. He's laughed at. Nature isn't fair.

I didn't make the rules. I'm just the no-nonsense neighborhood cop who enforces them. The general rule is that tall is good for a man. Tall is irrelevant for a woman.
But yes, a fashion model must be tall.

I'm just at average for women, then, at 5'4". I was a late bloomer, though, and was 4'9" when I first started high school. Thank goodness I at last joined the ranks of cookie-cutter heights.

5'8" is actually the starting tall age of a woman. A celebrity example is Heather Graham.
