It's definitely a case of bloodlust. Punishment and consequences are one thing. But to wish to see another human being basically being fried alive is horrible. It's the worst of human nature. It's like in the old days and the gladiator sports, with people wanting to see their fellow man mauled to death. Or even going to the town square to see a condemned witch being burned alive.
Who would want to see something like this?
I understand that, for one example, family members of Ted Bundy's victims got together to wait for him to be executed and I am in no position to judge their pain, but I do think there is something brutal and nasty going on here as well, especially when its random citizens who seem to get real excited about the idea of somebody being put to death.
Capital punishment is plain barbarism.

Oh for sure and the faux outraged are salivating over someone get a comeuppance that is largely inconsequential for them. It’s those who were impacted by the perps actions, which is where the real feeling lies.
If their pain is assuaged by seeing them murdered at the corrupted hypocritical hands of the state, then that is something they can only own for themselves. And the rest who ra ra it on to satiate their own bloodlust, perhaps need to take a good look at the kind of person they have become.
