100% Neither is funny.
I hate saying that because both of them were very complimentary to me when I did stand up.
But neither is or was funny.
But there are hundreds comics out there who arent funny and get accolades.
Hannibal Burress
Judy Tenuta
Sebastian Manascuolo
Joe Rogan

Thank you for your insights, Steve. I listened to Manascalco(sp?) for the first time recently and was shocked at how **** he is. Stand-up comedy is ****ed. I think podcasting had a big hand in ruining it.

I dont agree. I did stand up for about 12 years.
Crowd work is fine. Now dont get me wrong. Your entire act shouldn't just be crowd work.
I mean you do have to have an act or at least a semblance of an act. But if half your set is crowd work, that's fine.
There are some key things to consider. When I say if half your act or set is crowd work, I am talking if you are on stage for an hour or 40 minutes.
If you are doing a set that is only 15 minutes long then of course have jokes. Have material. That's too short to do crowd work.
But to completely dismiss crowd work is also very silly. Crowd work is essential. You might lift the energy in the room with crowd work.
Also , if you are going to be a successful stand up you must absolutely MUST be able to deal with hecklers.
Which is yes, considered crowd work.
