I dont think Chris is the reason, Disney is too powerful to let a movie star decide if they go woke or not. They already proved to the world they dont care, Disney has lost 60% of its value, 190 BILLIONS last year alone with this woke thing and they show no indication that they are going to stop.
Wokeness aside I feel like MCU phase 4 and beyond would have failed even if they didnt go full woke, people in general have super hero movie fatigue by this point.
You cant release 10 movies and tv shows per year, people need a break and feel excitement about the next big movie coming and this is impossible when you have some new heroe thing coming out every month. -

Of course they exist in comics, but they are not popular, Disney is a buisness and the point of any buisness is to make money, the point of any movie is to get the most number of people to watch it. If you have a comic like spiderman and 900 million people read it and you have a comic about spider-woman that 30 million people read, what would be the smart choice if you have to chose one to make a movie about?
If someone chooses to make a movie about Batman instead of making a movie about She-Hulk, it is not because that person is a misoginist that hates woman and love straight white males. It simple a smart buisness choice considering the popularity of each character.
Disney is the worse with the woke crap but mostly everyone in hollywood is on the woke train, they are afraid to get criticized and called racist and homophobic unless they include certain things.
I recently watched the show "Alaska Daily". The office is 1 latino, 1 gay, 1 asian, 1 black, 1 obese woman, 1 native woman, 1 white woman. It feels incredibly forced to have an office like this where you have to appeal to EVERYONE in the world, every continent, every race, and every sexual preference is represented.
The last of Us, loved the game and loved the show but again they have to meet a woke quota. So they created a strong female antagonist that didnt exist, they make the kid deaf and mute (he wasnt in the game) and they invented the gay story. Frank does exist in the game and it is hinted that he is gay but nothing more. I loved the gay episode, the best in the show but it was included to meet a quota. And this was a game that features a lesbian protagonist, so there really was no need to change it and add things to appease the masses. -

They've already used up all their A List superheroes and probably all the B tier ones too. Once those cash cows are milked dry you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Woke has very little if anything to do with it.

Yes, I said before that I feel like Phase 4 would have failed even without wokeness, I agree they have to use B tier less known heroes and that is a problem. But dont you find it strange that not EVEN ONE white male has been replaced by another white male. It is just a big coincidence that every replacement is black or a woman or some kind of minority. Every heroe that they changed if it was a woman or black before, it stays a woman and black, but if it was male or white it was changed 100% of the time.
And then you have things like non-binary Elemental, black mermaid or latino Snow White or (RUMORS) like the new Woke Blade where his daughter has more protagonism than him. Like I said before there is no need to change every white character that ever existed. If Disney wants a black character they can just create a new one like they did in Soul, I consider Soul one of the best movies Disney ever made or like they did in Coco, another great movie with a latino lead. -

There's no reason the fairy tale characters have to be white just because they were in the past. Except maybe Snow White since that's right there in the name.
I was never really a Marvel Superman even though I watched most of them up until the last few years. They jumped the shark when they brought everyone back after getting Thanosed.
Does the Spiderverse series count as woke just because it has a black-latino Spiderman? Almost everybody liked those movies even though Miles Morales isn't nearly as well known as Peter Parker.
It's mostly the quality of the writing that's bringing Marvel down. Not the color or gender of the actors. Even in the Falcon series I wasn't bothered too much by the stupid subplot where a black Avenger somehow couldn't get a simple mortgage from the bank. It was everything else that was just awful. The villain didn't make much sense and at the end he just says "Hey UN lady, give people food and stuff" then everything is magically ok. I wish they would have shown how devastating the sudden reappearance of 4 billion people would actually be but that's not the type of thing they go for. -

Look I am latino myself, dont have anything against a black or latino lead and I liked both spidervese movies. I just believe it is pretty clear Disney has an agenda here and I hate being forced to watch this in EVERY SINGLE MOVIE without exception.
You talk about the quality of the writing, I agree it has gone down but let me give you an example of what I believe is happening now in Disney.
Maybe some writer aproachs Disney with a new idea for a show where a white male fights crime and at the end of the day defeats the main villain, the end.
Disney response would probably be… IMPOSIBLE how dare you have a white male hero, make it a black independet lesbian woman fighting crime with a dildo and transgender villain and add an asian sidekick or I wont make the movie. (I am exagerating of course)
At the end of the day the writer will agree because if he doesnt the movie wont get made and will change his movie to meet Disney woke quota and you will get the **** movies we are getting today.
Just imagine Tolkien going to Disney with the Lord of the Rings, Disney will say, no strong independent woman lead change that, most of the cast is white change that, most of the cast is male change that, add black characters, add a gay Dragon, add indian people, add asian people. Hobbits cant be small like dwarves that is discrimination change that, there are no non-binary people change that, add a latino, none of the characters have lesbian moms, etc.
At the end of that meeting, no matter how good a writer you are or how good is your story you will end up with a piece of crap movie. When a writer has to compromise his story to include a list of 100 things Disney wants so that every person in the planet feels represented by your movie because if you dont do that you are considered racist, misoginist, homophobic, etc. The end result will always be bad writing. -

Racial minorities and women have been underrepresented on screen and behind the camera in Hollywood for 99% of its existence. I don't know if they've finally caught up or not but even if it's an over correction it'll sort itself over time. Marvel is basically just an movie factory where everything is made by committee anyway. Same thing with Netflix and their algorithm generated shows. It's not worth getting upset about.
Using Disney for LOTR is a weird hypothetical since Amazon already butchered the Rings of Power series. Or at least got off to a right start with season 1. Replacing the black elf or hobbit with white ones wouldn't have helped anything. You could argue that trying to make Galadriel into a warrior princess was some pointlessly woke girl power stuff maybe.
On the other side of things it really did help when House of the Dragon used black actors for the Velaryon family even though it's not how they were in the books. They made it much easier to tell the two Valyrian families apart and the actors were good at their roles. -

Sure, it is not only Disney, most of hollywood is like this now, Disney just went into hyperdrive mode.
I just dont get this need to be represented, are there really people sitting in their homes and thinking, if only my race or gender was better represented in Hollywood the world would be better? I would be happier, movies would be better. Why would it matter if the lead in a movie is from your race or not? As a latino I honestly couldnt care less about being represented or not. It is not like I feel happy or proud if a movie like Blue Beelte is made, the movie was pretty bad. The lead character being white, black, latino, asian doesnt change anything for me, I just want to see a good movie. -

I'm assuming Blue Beetle was as bad as it looked but so what? Morbius was awful too. They're not all going to be winners. Sometimes you lose. Sometimes you end up with an Oscar winner like Everything Everywhere All At Once.

I like Samuel Jackson as an actor. Not as Nick Fury. Not just because Fury was white but because he wasn't some old guy who couldn't run from one side of the room to the other without coughing up a lung. Jackson was simply too old for the part.
