Can't shake the feeling that this season is AoS' coda. Swan song, if you will.

Like caseyrook said below, I'm going to believe that there are things going on in the back room we don't get to see. I am concerned about the ratings and the things you mentioned. I guess right now we'll just have to enjoy the heck out of this show while we can and hope for the best. I hope we get one more season. I also hope that if the plug is pulled, enough notice is given to everyone so that they can craft a proper conclusion.
As caseyrook pointed out though, if this was a done deal, they likely wouldn't have gone for Slingshot.
Time will tell. When do those sorts of announcements typically come, anyway?

The ratings don't bother me as much as they do others. They're holding steady and are a noticeable improvement for the time-slot over last year.
Chloe's comment is what makes me think that they
are
crafting their "proper conclusion." Can be interpreted as pandering the faithful as they say their good-byes
And then there's
Oh, look! Beer, sandwiches and biscuits.
What was I saying?
Munch, munch, slurp slurp

The thing is that's not even true anymore. Right now the show is getting about the same ratings as the Shark Tank reruns that aired in slot last year.
The fact that the show didn't air at all during November sweeps, but is airing new episodes now when a lot of other shows are on hiatus tells me that ABC has all but given up on the show. -

Ummm that's not really "talking me down"

The thing that kills me is, it's obvious that when they planned this show back in 2012/2013(ish) they mapped out three years. They mapped Skye becoming Quake and Ward becoming Hive. They got their 3 year run and. surprise, surprise. it got renewed for a fourth. S4 is practically a reboot in that it feels like a whole new show and is the best season yet. Too bad the 3 year plan continued to bleed off viewers (live viewers anyway).
I'm holding on to the L+7's keeping it alive for a S5 to reach the 100 ep milestone. L+7's reflect the show's popularity (but unfortunately that popularity doesn't make for appointment viewing) and those popularity numbers may help with syndication sales. I don't know foreign sales numbers and ratings, but I hope they're strong enough to help push it forward for another season.
It seems the 10 PM move lowered ratings expectations, but also moved a lot of viewers from L+SD to L+3/L+7. The scales are starting to tip in the wrong direction..
RIP 616

Well, Supernatural had a very satisfying, well-rounded conclusion at the end of season 5, finishing an arc that had basically been going on since the start of the show. They have recently been renewed for season 13.
Make of that what you will.
I don't know whether AoS will still be around next year, but either way, I think the showrunners are not stupid. They know that with the ratings not being the best, the show's move to ABC's "death slot" and the episode number for syndication having been reached, cancellation is not completely unlikely. They probably just want to avoid Agent Carter's big disaster of ending the show on a cliffhanger. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to keep telling their stories should they get the go-ahead. Let's just hope they will!

I think the showrunners have learnt their lesson from AC season 2. Whether AoS will get a Season 5 or not, they want to connect all the dangling threads and bring the whole series to a proper conclusion.
I am not worried about AoS's cancellation because it is MCU, and considering that SHIELD is a big player, there's always hope for Agents to pop up in a movie. -

Ratings went up to 1.5 after Live plus 7 was counted.
Hope that helps.
