It seems like this episode just undermined all of the character development from the Flashpoint mistake.
Once again Barry is using his powers and his glimpse of the future to alter the timeline for his own reasons.
Him changing Iris' future death could just as easily lead to other people dying, and the timeline shifting. -

The whole flashpoint thing seemed to be more about changing the past and less about changing the future. Who is to say that what he saw (Savitar killing iris) was the "real" future.

He's not manipulating time this time around, just the present i.e. things he and other people should be controlling. There's a difference between being going back in time to change the past and doing things in the present.

There are some things that are different this time around that shows the suppose growth you alluded to. First i dont know why people think hes suppose to just let it happen. If it was you and you were really capable of doing something would you do nothing. I find that hard to believe. But back to why this different. First off Barry recognize that in trying to change the future he may do certain things that actually ensure that the future plays out the way it does. He recognizes this so he is not doing this without thinking about it first. Secondly he is not doing and keeping the team in the dark he is telling them what is goong to happen. Finally they did manage to change something about the future. Personally i beleieve that a person has some control over their future. I dont believe that a persons future is set in stone. Only the past is set in stone. You can change something in the present that can change the future.

The past is a fixed point. The present and future aren't.

Even though it is the present to us, it is the past to people like Eobard Thawne. He already knows how things were suppose to be and he is the one, at least in Barry's timeline, who created the first alteration to the timeline by killing Barry's mother and Harrison Wells. He also moved up the date of when Barry became the Flash.

Yea, but this time it's from Barry and Team Flash's perspective, so even if he knows how things play out they don't, since he's not bugging them currently. Unless of course he turns out to be involved with Savitar.
