Was Schumacher at the wrong Batman series at the wrong time?

With him saying he wanted to do Year One but couldn't. He would've been able if it was the first in a series of films or at the very start of the movie franchise. It would be like someone wanting to do another Superman origin film right after Superman 1&2, there's something about prequels or reboots being many years where people's interests gets percolated a bit.

He does feel like somebody who would wanna do Year One regardless of what series he is at and to where people are with it. At times it feels like he's trying too hard to prove he can do a dark Batman film or trying to make himself sound important.
