Spider-Man for dreamcast. I like the story, gameplay, and the fact that you can unlock costumes that give you cheats with the ability to save your game unlike today's games.

Maximum Carnage: Genesis/Snes
I've had a lot of fun with Spider-Man games and enjoyed more or less all of them.
But playing Maximum Carnage as a kid is a precious memory for me. I love the music, the colours, the fact its based on an actual comic story it takes me back to that early 90's comic era that I love (flaws and all).
Nostalgia aside, I think it would be a tie between Web of Shadows and Shattered Dimensions.
Web of Shadows (ps3) was what became the standard after Spider-Man 2 (ps2) open world, with greater graphics and the ability to become symbiote Spidey at will. The web rush (I think it was called that) and the air and wall fighting were amazing updates as well.
Shattered Dimensions done away with the open world, which initially seemed like a step backwards, but brought back that adventure type of feeling by taking place on locations outside of the city feel. You had secret labs, jungles, a ship, A Shield helicarrier (or base at least).
On top of that, each level was more or less a solo confrontation with a rogue.
Most Spidey games have been fun on some level. -

Maximum carnage for me as well.
I've never played that game but I've heard nothing but bad things about it. Like that it's too super hard and you have to find these tokens just to be able to continue. I saw a video of it a while back and it does look really hard. Honestly Spider-Man 3 for X-Box 360 is one of the hardest Spider-Man games I ever played. The bad thing is unlike the PS2 version there is no difficulty setting. It's just hard no matter what. Couldn't get passed the first missions. The worst level has to be the one where there's literally 100 of these half naked women that you can't fight and they all kill you no matter what. Whoever thought that up can go suck a bag of rocks.

Yeah I remember as a kid playing Maximum Carnage and the game Spider-Man and the X-Men: Arcade's Revenge both on the Super Nintendo and both of those games were very hard. I never beat either of them but I remember I'd constantly rent them because they were Spider-Man and X-Men games. No idea why I never got either of them for Christmas or something. I probably rented each game more than 5 times. I don't think I ever made it past the Storm water level in the Spidey/X-Men game and in regards to Carnage I don't think I made it past fighting Carnage the first time if I remember correctly.

When I was a kid I more often than not got to one or two levels before the end.
I kept my genesis for years and finally owned the game when I was about 16 (I used to rent it before that man, I really
really
miss renting genesis games and vhs tapes).
I completed it when I finally owned it, and now play it for a bit every year or two on my emulator, and usually don't have a problem finishing it.
I find Spider-Man vs The Kingpin a lot harder in all honesty.
