Well- watch the episode again. She expressed feelings from high school for a female friend. So- she's not suddenly interested in women only because of Maggie. The situation with Maggie served as a catalyst for her to examine herself once and for all and find the courage to admit it and come out. Psssst yah, people are "born gay", it just takes time to realize it because society is so completely heteronormative and it takes courage to come out due to all of the hateful people in the world who are anti gay.

Technically, that's a mashup of two tropes:

Definitely not the mark of competent writing.

She still is tough, they even had her stand up to Maggie and really make sure she realized what she did and how it affected her, and also showed that she'd mature enough to forgive and not burn the bridge.

No way in hell I will let my kids watch this thing. This pro-homosexual agenda stuff has gone too far. It does no one any good.

Jayhawk I so agree with you. I'm done with this show. I really was one of the faithful ones who was watching it even when it wasn't getting great ratings. I stuck with it. Now that it seemed to have perked back up, they bring in this pro-homosexual agenda as you say. At the last episode when Maggie came back to Alex's house and talked to her and they were about to kiss, I changed the channel. I'm done. That's one show that is off my list when it returns in the new year.
Another show that had started off so great was This is Us. So clean and nice.
I was really liking it. Would you believe that they've now turned that old black man - the father - into a caricature of a gay man? Like anyone would believe he's gay.
And now the show has gotten so many Golden Globe nominations. I wonder if it would have gotten that if there wasn't a gay story arc.
That's the next one I might be cutting off my must-watch list when it returns next year. I'm sick of these writers that start off a show with straight characters and then mid-stream or close to the end, changing the trend of the show. Now if they had started off like that I might have understood and said, ah well, and maybe continue watching. But when they do this turnaround, it really annoys me. So bye bye Supergirl, and if This is Us continues down the same trend, bye bye for me to that too.

I guess you and Jayhawk would both be the kind of parents who would disown their children if they were to ever come out as gay/lesbian, bisexual, or transgender - wouldn't you?

That's the thing, if you raise your kids right they will never choose that path. If you can't see that it IS a choice then you should NOT be allowed to be a parent. My kids are being raised correctly with love AND discipline.

In other words he supports child abuse and will most likely abandon his children if they turn out to be homosexual the same way mine did. People like him aren't fit to be parents and could very well lose their children soon under new laws here in Australia 'cause abusing your children for being homosexual and forcing them to be heterosexual could finally be officially recognised as a form of child abuse.

I read through this entire thread just to find out if your 8 year old is gay or not and I never got the answer.

Well I still watch it with my kids (12, 10 & 7). They haven'd had any issues with it so far. But then we haven't raised them with any hangups about sexuality so its probably not something they're concerned about.

Perhaps you should leave the 1950s.
All you're suggesting is that you're a bad parent. You're whining that a character is gay, despite that she's gone no further than a kiss when kissing is there throughout the series. This while watching a show that has battles and killing every episode.
You really need to gain some moral fibre if that's an issue for you to the point where you think you can't watch it with your kids.
The Mon-El/Tessmacher thing was reasonable enough in the story context, but could have been presented differently. However, that was an inane storyline where someone who doesn't even know what a phone is shows up to work answering them. That he didn't grasp our cultural mores made sense, but that he was in position for that to happen didn't.
