I think we're both equally biased on different sides of the scale, but I genuinely do both enjoy these movies and think that they're all around quality productions. Some of them have been amongst the best of the genre.
I do not excuse poor efforts though, like casting January Jones as mentioned above, it's not as if they're incapable of making errors in judgment but I do feel that they've been doing a hell of a good job with these X-Men movies lately, they're really pouring a lot of talent and effort into them and it shows in the quality of the productions.
And lastly like you I'm an old school X-Men fan, the difference is I've been quite happy with both the fan service and the changes made to the traditional/original stories and characters in the movies (with some exceptions). -

Talent, yes. Effort, no. Like I said before, they go out of their way to not make the movies about them being X-men. It's like they can't think of a way to make the movies about X-men and have a story that would last 2 hours. Both DoFP and Apocalypse was them starting over so they could make it as minimum as possible.

I don't think so.
One of the things that impressed me the most about
X-Men Apocalypse
was the juggling, high-wire act of so many characters and giving something to all of them, and having them mesh so well together.
Except Psylocke, I feel she was left out of the circle. Every other character got a good lead-in except for maybe Psylocke. She was Caliban's protector and agent/enforcer but she could have used the same fleshing out that all of the other characters in this movie got. -

I don't think he works for Fox. If he did he'd be the worst at trying to get people to like their CBMs. He goes too far in trying to be positive on these movies.
