I am a colossal nerd who is obsessed with comics, video games TV, movies, and books.
And that is one of the things we all love about you cdull
You know more about the history of comic books than anybody I have met and I always enjoy talking to you 'cause I learn new things all the time.

This is exactly how you made me feel!
Well when you're obsessed with something like I am you want to know as much about it as possible! And you know a lot about comics I am not aware of and have me gathering up stuff to read in the following year. Going to be reading a lot of Teen Titans, Birds of Prey, Batgirl, Batman, Wynonna Earp, and Hack/Slash because of you!

Awww! That's very sweet of you to say.
I know what you mean with being obsessed with something and I have been obsessed with music for a long time and when my sister bought me my first guitar I didn't stop practicing until I learned how to play it. I am what some people like to call a completest with albums and Beccy and I both have a large collection of albums here and when I buy an album of an artist or band and I really like them like I did with Liz Longley last year I have to buy all their albums 'cause it annoys me until I have them and can listen to all their other songs.
With some artists it is only 4 or 5 albums but I like a lot of Classic Rock bands and some of them have up to 30 albums each. Amazon is the best way to get them 'cause they are very cheap and I love the Auto Rip option that comes with them now.
I have been reading comic books for since I was 6 or 7 and I mostly read DC comics but I also love a lot of Marvel, Image Comics, Dark Horse, IDW and Volcano Comics characters and I know more about female superheroes than most comic book readers I know do 'cause I relate to female characters more and it annoys me that there are not more female lead comic book movies 'cause there have been hundreds of successful female lead comic books that haven't even got their own movies. It is a joke that Witchblade and Darkchylde still don't have movies now when their comic books were so popular in the late 90s and early 00s they were outselling most of the popular DC and Marvel superheroes including Batman, Superman and Spider-Man in sales. If you have any questions about female superheroes you can ask me.

But it's true! You always put a smile on my face!
I keep kicking myself because I don't buy as much music as I do books and movies. I don't really have an excuse except maybe I'm more crazy about books and films. I can relate to being a completest. I was that way when buying comics, though now I tend to see whose writing it first. Some writers I just don't care for and I have no desire to read, even if it's a character I like. I have found this has spared me of some really bad runs.
I got into comics about the same age as you. My mom would come home from work with a DC or Marvel title some well known some not so much. But I loved reading all of them! I tend read exclusively male characters up into my 20s but then I decided to read comics with female characters and found out I could relate to them just as well. Funny how much we all have in common if we just bother to look.
I'm surprised a lot of the popular female characters of the 90s never got a movie. Didn't Witchblade have a TV series? Female superheroes seem to do better on TV then movies. It's weird. And sad.

Witchblade had a TV series in the early 00s and while it was a product of its time as Lith noted it was the highest rated TV show in history to be cancelled and the show only ended because the main star, Yancey Butler had alcohol problems and had to go to rehab. Witchblade should have been made into a movie first cause a lot of the things in the comic books couldnt be done in a show and if you could picture what a TV show of Green Lantern would be like it was kinda that. Theres a Darkchylde movie in development and John Carpenter is attached to direct it but it has been put on hold for the past 6 years and John Carpenter said in an interview not long ago it was still being made but he didnt know when it was coming out or if he would still be involved in it and it is like the Avengelyne movie.
A lot of female characters from the 90s would have had their own movies if they were men and even some of the creators of the characters who are males have said it and acknowledged the sexism that is prevalent in Hollywood with strong female characters while male comic book characters who have not even sold half the comic books Witchblade and Darkchylde have had movies that went on to flop but they still got their own movies. The sales and popularity of some of these character show it is The fact we still havent got a Batgirl movie or TV show when the 50tth anniversary is coming up next year is a joke and we should have a Batgirl TV show!!
The female comic book characters I would like to see have their own movies are- Batgirl
- Supergirl (Linda Danvers) or Fallen Angel
- Witchblade
- Darkchylde
- Birds of Prey
- Aphrodite IX
- Red Sonja (Written by Gail Simone like the upcoming video game)
- Raven
- Spider Woman
- Batwoman
- The Magdalena
- Zatanna
- Avengelyne
- Starfire
- Shanna the She-Devil
- Calie Liddle (Wonderland Series)
- Monstress
- Ms Marvel
- Power Girl
- Dejah Thoris

That's a shame what happened with Yancy Butler. Hopefully she's better now. Apparently there is a Witchblade film that has been in developmental Hell since 2008. No idea what's going on there.
John Carpenter attached to Darkchylde? OMG! He's my favorite director! I was watching some of his best last week. Oh wow. Shame that film is in DH too and might not get made with him.
Did you see Barbara Gordon is in the Lego Batman movie? She's the new commissioner of the GCPD. Yeah it's a kid's comedy and she's not the lead but I think it's pretty neat.
Batgirl TV show would be awesome.
Didn't know Deja Thoris had her own series. I read A Princess of Mars and the movie John Carter. She's an awesome character. But then I looooove warrior women.
It's funny. I love warrior women but want a sensitive man.

I am not sure what is going on with it either but it is very disappointing cause a movie of Witchblade would be awesome if it was done right and it should have been made years ago especially over some of the lesser known comic book characters who are getting movies now but I think it all comes down to Witchblade being a comic book movie about a female hero like I said above and Hollywood rarely make any of those no matter how successful they are cause the executives dont like female heroes and there has been long history of that going back to Batgirl with Yvonne Craig. The only reason that we even got a Wonder Woman TV series with Lynda Carter in the 70s was cause of the backlash the network got from fans and people working in the industry over not going through with the Batgirl TV show with Yvonne Craig and even the creator of Wonder Woman acknowledged that in interviews.
A lot of executives in Hollywood see the concept of a woman being a hero as a joke and they feel it is emasculating to have female heroes save male characters and the so-called emasculation was one of the main complaints about Wonder Woman from sexist jerks who sent a lot of abusive letters to the writers of the Wonder Woman show and I am not sure if you have seen some of the documentaries about the Wonder Woman show but there was one of Foxtel last year that talked about it and there was a period where DC gave into the sexism from threatened males and made Wonder Woman into a character who spent all her time shopping, cooking and wanting to look beautiful for her boyfriend while her boyfriend did most of the crime fighting and a lot of female readers complained and it was eventually changed back but for that period the Wonder Woman comics were an absolute joke.
Thankfully the TV show didnt give into the same sexism and ignored all the haters and regardless of all the complaints Wonder Woman went on to become one of the most successful superhero shows of all time and few superhero shows have had the same success it had. Sadly we have had to wait for decades for a Wonder Woman movie and I still think they made a mistake making movie of Supergirl in the 80s instead of Wonder Woman cause Lynda Carter was open to doing one and it would have been far more successful with Wonder Womans popularity at the time but Warner Bros have said if the new Wonder Woman movie is successful they will make more movies of female superheroes and they have acknowledged a lot of people want movies of female superheroes so that could help with a Witchblade, Darkchylde and Aphrodite IX movie and the Avengelyne movie could help too.
John Carpenter was attached to Darkchylde and he is a fan of the series and with John doing it I think it could have been successful but like others it got stopped. I dont know if you ended up getting that Darkchylde graphic novel I told you about a few weeks ago but I got it in the mail a few days ago and it turned out to be a novel adaptation of the series. I heard they were making a novel of Darkchylde but I didnt know it was that and I have been reading it and it is really good so far and I would like to see more comic books adapted into novels. There was a Batman novel that came out last year called The Riddlers Gambit and it was based between Arkham City and Arkham Knight. Deja Thoris has her own comic book series and had for a while now and I am surprised you didnt know about it but I will give you a link for some of the graphic novels on Amazon below.
It's funny. I love warrior women but want a sensitive man.
Yeah. I have always been kinda like that too except Beccy is the perfect combination of warrior and sensitive.

I think a lot of these creators re independent of the comics industry and they want to be independent of the Hollywood system. Partly because of how Hollywood feels about female heroes and partly because they want to retain creative control. Which I have no problem with. But making movies can be a long and slow process. It took ten years to make the first batman movie with Michael Keaton and numerous scripts, actors and directors along the way. It's much worse for independent studios who have limited funds and resources to work with.
Though sometimes an independent studio can cease to exist, which ties up the film rights in red tape for years. That's what happened with the Vampirella film being developed in the 1970s. Hammer Studios went bankrupt and it took decades to get the rights sorted out.
But I would rather have a Witchblade or a Darkchylde or a Vampirella movie take a long time in development if it means they get it done right.
You are right that there is a lot of sexism aimed at female action heroes, from both execs and fans. But I think things are getting better. Or maybe I'm just thinking wishfully.
I applaud those who ignore the hate and prove that females are capable of being action heroes. Still it's a shame it took us so long to get a Wonder Woman movie. Think about it: Superman debuted in 1938 and made it to the big screen in 1940. Batman debuted in 1939 and made it to the screen in 1949. Wonder Woman debuted in 1941 but didn't make it to the screen until 75 years later!
Haven't gotten Darkchylde yet. As to Dejah Thoris I am kinda out of the comics loop and just now starting to get back into them, so I have a lot of catching up to do.
Beccy is your knight in shining armor and you the maiden fair.

I think being independent of the Hollywood System would be the best way for some of these writers to go too cause there has always been lots of sexism towards female heroes within the industry and while things are slowly starting to change with more five comic book movies on the way with female leads they showed just how little respect they had for Catwoman as a character when they created a Catwoman movie using a script for a different movie with some changes. When you look back at the amount of Batman and Superman movies that were in development in the 80s, 90s and 00s (like the failed Nicholas Cage Superman movie) that Warner Bros scraped cause they didnt think they would be successful there is no way they would make one of those based on a script for a different film but with Catwoman they didnt care and one could assume they only made it cause they had to.
After Michelle Pfieffer and Tim Burton pulled out of the original movie that was originally going to be a spinoff from Batman Returns Catwoman was said to be up in air but Warner Bros still wanted to have a Catwoman movie so that was what we got and it was said bad Halle Berry has said in multiple interviews it was one of the worst movies of her entire career and she was mislead into believing she was going to be playing Catwoman/Selina Kyle and got a role that was completely different than what she expected. Then there was Elektra, a movie that should have never been made since it was a spinoff of a movie that many people declared as a flop and Ben Affleck distanced himself from and it is not hard to see why some directors and writers in Hollywood have said a lot of female superhero movies were written with the intention of flopping. I would rather wait years for a good movie over more poor movies too but I am looking forward to seeing Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn (with the Birds of Prey), Captain Marvel, Avengelyne and Painkiller Jane. Did you know Painkiller Jane did crossovers with Darkchylde and Vampirella?
I think the sexism is getting better slowly (as I mentioned above) but it is still prevalent especially in Marvel who have degraded Black Widow down to being a sidekick and couldn't even be bothered to give her a movie after millions of fans have been asking for one for close to a decade. The Civil War movie was a good example of this and the fact they completely removed Ms Marvel out of it when she had a big role in the comics and an entire graphic novel dedicated to her role in Civil War was a joke to say the least. Not only was Ms Marvel the first superhero Iron Man went to help for 'cause he respected her but because she was the most powerful superhero he knew. Ms Marvel should have been the first female superhero added to the Marvel movies (before Black Widow) since Carol Danvers is the biggest selling female superhero in the history of Marvel comics but cause of her super powers they went with Black Widow cause it was easier to make her a side character.
Female superhero movies and TV shows aren't hard to write. There have already been dozens of female superhero movies and TV shows that have been very successful but they were called superheroes or based on comic books. These were movies and TV shows about female characters with enhanced abilities (superpowers) and Buffy has all of the characteristics of a superhero and was more popular than any female superhero movie or TV show and Joss Whedon was able to pull off something DC and Marvel (who are supposed to be specialists with superheroes) haven't been able to do in the past 50 years. The main problem is the writers they have gotten to write these movies have been horrible and there have been hundreds of female superhero comic book series that have been very success over the past few decades and that is because they were FAR better written than the movies. This is why female superheroes should be handled by comic book writers 'cause they KNOW how to write the characters and Gail Simone should be in charge of the Harley Quinn solo movie with Birds of Prey and the talked about Batgirl movie. Having good writers changes everything.

I feel bad because I have nothing further to say. You said everything perfectly and I just can't think of anything to say beyond "Ditto!"
I am curious about the Harley/Quinn Birds of Prey movie. We know the team will have Batgirl, so I wonder if she is a new hero or an established one? Either way I wonder what her relationship with Batman is. In Dawn of Justice it was just him and Alfred and it's implied he's been this way since the death of Robin.
I like to think she's an established hero but is no longer working with Batman. So she creates the Birds of Prey to help her fight Harley and whatever super villains working with her.
I'm just guessing Harley has her own team, because otherwise Batgirl could take her down herself.
Who would you want in the Birds of Prey and do you have any ideas for actresses?

That's okay.
We just need more people in positions of power to hear them for change to be made and it appears they are starting to listen to fans now with Warner Bros recently acknowledging the want for female superheroes on screen and 5 upcoming movies based on comic books with female leads but we will have to wait and see how things turn out. I would love to see them add Supergirl to Man of Steel and I think that is the perfect time to introduce her and before Batman vs Superman when they were talking about a Man of Steel 2 one of the people working at Warner Bros at the time said there were plans to have Supergirl in the movie. DC's top 3 female superheroes are Wonder Woman, Batgirl and Supergirl. We now have 2 of the 3 and they need to add Supergirl to the movie universe and what is so great about another Supergirl is we have a chance to have a REAL Supergirl with the attitude to go with it. While I don't mind the Supergirl TV show as you know one of the main problems with it is their version has nothing in common with the Supergirl of the past 20 years in Supergirl comic books and is more like a female version of Superman. I want to see an edgy and aggressive Supergirl with the attitude and if they choose to use Kara over Linda Danvers I think they should make Kara more like Linda with the different powers like the ability to shapeshift, heal people, teleport and see the last few seconds of a persons life by looking into their eyes.
I think its possible Batgirl, Nightwing and Batwoman already exist in the movie universe. Geoff Johns has already said that he has big plans for Titans on screen with (Nightwing, Raven, Starfire, Hawk and Dove) so that almost confirms Nightwings existence and Batwoman already has a history of working on her own separate from Batman (up until DC Rebirth) so all they would have to do is make a single mention of her in a solo Batman film to confirm she is already established. It is likely Barbara Gordon and Dick Grayson had a falling out with Bruce after Jason Todd was murdered and starting he took to killing villains instead of putting them behind bars and I could easily see both Barbara and Dick being against that and going their separate ways with Barbara setting up the Birds of Prey and Dick setting up the Titans outside of Gotham. They could have Batgirl and Nightwing as superheroes who people look up to and they work alongside the police like they do in the comic books but Batman is seen as former hero turned vigilante cause he kills people and that would add an interesting twist to things.
The members I would like to see the most in the Birds of Prey are the 4 official members (Batgirl, the Black Canary, the Huntress and Lady Blackhawk) with Starling who starts off as a member of the Birds Of Prey and later betrays them and becomes a villain. I have heard a lot of people say if they have Harley as a villain she is going to need to have more villains with her or she will be outnumbered but I think Harley just needs Poison Ivy and I don't think those people realise how powerful Poison Ivy is. Poison Ivy can control people's minds and make them do things for her and a lot of her henchmen walk around in zombielike states attacking people for her and they could have the Birds of Prey fighting all of them before they even get anywhere near her. I also think they should add Batgirl/Poison Ivy storyline to the movie with Barbara and Pamela growing up together as best friends and Poison Ivy knowing Barbara is Batgirl 'cause that would make it a lot more personal.
One thing I am happy about is Warner Bros are establishing Black Canary as hero separate from the Green Arrow cause having her take on the mantle of the Black Canary after Oliver become the Green Arrow is one of the main problems I feel this show made with her character from day one and if they introduce the Green Arrow in the movies they can have them as separate experienced heroes who become partners in a Green Arrow movie and will be equals. I think Green Arrow is bound to be in the DC Movie Universe and I think they will have Mia and Roy with him but I doubt Diggle, Felicity or any of the new sidekicks this season will be in it. Both Black Canary and Green Arrow could have separate movies first based on their comic books and then have a Green Arrow/Black Canary movie.
Who would you want in the Birds of Prey and do you have any ideas for actresses?
I am not 100 percent sure about actresses yet but I think Yvonne Strahovski would be the perfect Black Canary and Rachel Nichols would be great as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in her 30s and has said she would love to play the role to fans who have suggested it on Twitter. Both Rachel and Yvonne can do all of their own stunts and have said in past interviews they would like to play female superheroes.

We're seeing women in more powerful positions in Hollywood. Not just directors and producers but the heads of studios too. Also it's what the public wants. The majority of viewers are women and they want to see better representation and they're starting to get it. Finally!
I remember when Man of Steel came out there was a lot of talk about Supergirl in the sequels. But then things changed as they focused on Dawn of Justice instead of Man of Steel 2. Hopefully Supergirl is still part of their plans. if they want to know how to write the character I say check out Smallville. I think they had the best take on Kara to date.
I always wanted to see them keep the Kara backstory but keep Linda Danvers as well. Since Kryptonians aren't shapeshifters I thought it could be Linda who is the shapeshifter and Kara and Linda could merge in the comics.
Batman has been around for 20 years according to Dawn of Justice so it would be easy to have an already established Batgirl and Nightwing. I too agree they would be on the outs with Batman since he wants to work alone and has become more ruthless.
Poison Ivy would be a great addition because she works so well with Harley. Films love to connect the heroes and villains and this time the comics actually provide us a connection instead of needing to make one up.
Black Canary should be introduced apart of Green Arrow. She's her own superhero and is a better fighter then Oliver. Diggle could make it to the films. He's in the comics still. They introduced Felicity too, but did not work out as well as Diggle and she hasn't been seen since.
Great casting ideas I love Yvonne, she is so yummy and such a badass! Rachel is spot on too and I cannot pick a better choice.

Yes, we are and it is about time.
There have been a number of successful female authors and comic book writers over the years who write Action, Thriller and Horror novels that go on to become number 1 best sellers but we are only seeing more female writers, producers and directors making action movies now and while sexist males continue to push the outdated belief that Action is a genre for men and Romance is a genre for women statistics prove otherwise. There are a lot of female comic book readers who want to see their favourite female superheroes finally get their chance to shine on the screen and after dozens of movies based on comic books with male leads it is only fair. I was reading an article about superhero movies the other day that said there have been more than five times as many movies based on comic books with male leads that have flopped than there has been of female superhero movies and that isn't surprising and if they were to look at that the same way they do as female heroes then they would have stopped making superhero movies years ago.
All we need is for a few movies to be successful and sexist executives will no longer be able to blame a superhero movie flopping on it having a female lead and the creators of those movies will rightfully get the blame like they should have with Supergirl, Elektra and Catwoman. I agree with you about Smallville's version of Supergirl being the best on screen adaption to date and I think the same could be said about Smallville's version of the Black Canary who was far more like her comic book counterpart than the version we have seen in Arrow and better written than the poor version we saw in the awful adaption of the Birds of Prey but the movies need to aim higher and go for the best. The funny thing about the Man of Steel movie is it borrowed a lot of the dark elements from the Supergirl comic books as you know just like Injustice: Gods Among Us also borrowed from Supergirl with an evil version of Superman and the creators of that even said Supergirl: Candor was one of their inspirations. I think the New 52 version of Supergirl would be best fitted for the movie universe but I would love to see Linda.
I like your idea for having Kara and Linda merge and some Supergirl fans have suggested on other sites instead of having Linda merge with the Matrix they could have her merge with the ghost of Kara to become Supergirl. Linda is very different than any female character we have ever seen in a superhero movie before and using Linda over Kara would definitely make Superman and Supergirl stand apart with their different personalities and superpowers and I would even suggest they use the white Supergirl costume over the blue one 'cause I always liked that one more and I even bought that online. I am looking forward to the Man of Steel 2 movie 'cause I am interested in what characters and villains are going to be in it and since they killed off Jimmy Olsen in Dawn of Justice I think they should introduce Chloe. If you read some of the older interviews with the creators of Man of Steel there was talk about using Chloe in the movies as Clark's childhood best friend and the addition of Chloe would be good for Lois since she doesn't seem to have many people she is close to in the movies and her cousin could fill up that spot.
Batman has been around for 20 years according to Dawn of Justice so it would be easy to have an already established Batgirl and Nightwing. I too agree they would be on the outs with Batman since he wants to work alone and has become more ruthless.
Yeah. I think that is the best way to introduce them and explain their absence in Dawn of Justice and I think they should have Batgirl and Nightwing appear in the solo Batman movie and go their separate ways again on happier terms at the end and the next 2 movies could introduce Tim Drake as Red Robin and Stephanie Browne as the Spoiler as his new team. Even though I would love to see all of the Bat Family characters finally appear in movies I think it is unlikely we will get them all in the new movies but Red Robin and the Spoiler replacing Batgirl and Nightwing would be easy to do and they could even play out the relationship between Tim and Stephanie in the movies with Batman worrying it is going to get in the way of them working together as a team. It will be interesting to see if Batgirl and Nightwing debut in the solo Batman movie or their own movies (Birds of Prey and Titans) first and with Batman being pushed back and the Birds of Prey/Harley Quinn movie being pushed forward and talk of Titans replacing Cyborg it looks like Batgirl and Nightwing will debut in separate movies which is something I suspect a lot of fans never thou -

No, I haven't seen the latest news about Painkiller Jane. Come to think of it I don't think I've seen any news about it since Jessica was cast.
It is neat these women are producing the film, it shows they are really invested in the films and their success.
IIRC, Margot was disappointed with the costume in Suicide Squad because she wanted to wear the classic Harley Quinn costume. I wonder if her being a producer will mean Harley will be wearing a different costume in her movie?

Yes. It does and that is what they are going to need if they want those movies to be successful 'cause past studios showed with the examples I listed above they were not really that invested in the movies at all and Catwoman looked like something they had to make 'cause they promised a Catwoman movie with Michelle Pfieffer before and couldn't go through with it. I am interested in what actresses they are going to use to play the Birds of Prey and Avengelyne and when they were talking about making the Avengelyne movie before they had former MMA figher Gina Carano set to play the role but she is no longer attached to the project and they are going with a new actress. Whatever actresses get the roles need to be believable and should be able to do most of their own stunts in the movies. There were rumours about WWE Superstar, Charlotte (Flair) being looked at for the role of the Black Canary but I wouldn't believe anything with the castings until they are official 'cause some sites were saying Yvonne Strahovski was set in stone to play Captain Marvel and that turned out to be wrong.
What I would love to see turned into movies or a TV series is the Makedde Vanderwall series by Tara Moss. Fetish, Split, Covet, Hit and Siren are some of my favourite novels of all time and if you haven't read any of them you should really check them out 'cause they would make awesome Action/Thriller movies. I would go as far to say there haven't been many female lead action movies or action movies in general as good as the Makedde Vanderwall series and Tara Moss has said she has been in talks with some studios in America to have Fetish turned into a movie.
IIRC, Margot was disappointed with the costume in Suicide Squad because she wanted to wear the classic Harley Quinn costume. I wonder if her being a producer will mean Harley will be wearing a different costume in her movie?
I am interested in this too and some sites were saying she was going to go with the Harley Quinn costume from Arkham Asylum but they turned out to be wrong. Speaking of Arkham Asylum did you hear Warner Bros. Montreal are working on a new Batman game? I hope it is Arkham Origins 2.
