How come the Indian Ocean wreckage is just sitting there?!

I enjoyed the film, but I still don't understand how that alien craft is just sitting there, with NOBODY blocking off the wreckage.
No US or foreign forces have claimed the wreckage, there is no security, nothing! It makes no sense..
Unless it was explained and I missed it. -

Yeah, bad writing.
If the site wasn't cordoned off, it should have been surrounded by fleets of scavengers! Alien tech would be really, really valuable.

Really? Downtown is being blown to bits all around you and just NOW you're evacuating?
It would've been better if, for instance, Jack said something like "Most of us got out but I'm here making sure everyone does."
That Indian Ocean establishing shot looks INSANELY BEAUTIFUL on a 4k TV with HDR on the 4k Blu-Ray at Fry's and Best Buy. But, as I felt with Krypton in Man of Steel, it sometimes feels like Snyder focused more on beautiful visuals and unique landscapes as opposed to the actual story and what the audience is supposed to learn. -

You'd be surprised how these things work actually. And maybe they thought it was safer in there than out on the streets where it would have been chaos. Good luck just driving home in those conditions.
The Indian Ocean wreckage is a beautiful scene though, even in just normal 1080p. But I saw it on imax, so I know how it looks at its best.

It was in international waters, hence no country can claim it. And it was still in the ocean after 18 months for the same reason there is millions and millions of trash in the ocean, nobody seemed to care. They were studying it, experimenting on it, investigating it, but no one seemed to be interested in moving it.
